Many of us knew and loved Elvis. Not all of us were found spending days at Graceland for many lived a good distance away and were not able to enjoy such pleasures outside of their own home lives. Still, Elvis somehow found kinfolk across the miles and kept in touch on a regular basis, when he could. Others spent alot of time at Graceland, and with Elvis in person, and following are some of those stories we, gladly, share with you.
Ronnie Fleetwood Honored Elvis...
Ronnie Fleetwood was kin to Elvis, too, and he knew Elvis...like a book...perhaps more than most. Perhaps, he knew something more about Elvis that he never told.
Ronnie, like a few of us, had spent many years on the internet, where he was well known for "keeping an eye on" followers of Elvis and spouting out to the frauds. Like E, Ronnie had a temper and a tongue that could lash out as vehemently. Yes; he was feared and he was tough, but Elvis fans loved him, and countless numbers of fans were of the opinion that Ronnie Fleetwood was Elvis Presley. Ronnie was a staunch supporter of Elvis, his memory and his legacy. He was one Elvis would have trusted with his life. Ronnie was also a singer; not a tribute artist, but he could sing, close enough to Elvis more than any tribute artist ever could do.
Ronnie Fleetwood, like Elvis, was one-of-a-kind. He may have been Elvis' greatest fan. He sure was his staunchest defender! The online Elvis World met their match in Ronnie Fleetwood, and kin, Barbara Lee, was right there with Ronnie going after the frauds, the mockers, and those desecrating the name and person of Elvis Presley.
The Frauds...
For countless years following Elvis' death, hordes of Presley wannabes cropped up over the internet, all claiming to be children, or kin, to Elvis. Now, it is not an impossibility that Elvis did have an illegitimate child, however, Elvis owned up to his deeds, knowing all along that the attention given him by young, beautiful women could have caused him a few slip-ups. Elvis would have been the first to acknowledge the truth of any who might have belonged to him. To date, only one child stands out as a possible illegitimate child of Elvis Presley, for this child, a boy, was known to have visited, and played at Graceland, and had even stated that Priscilla knew him very well. Ronnie, too, became very much aware of this person and seems to have trusted him.
Together, Ronnie and Barbara Lee kept their eyes on Jerry Presley, known Elvis impersonator and very distant cousin whom falsely claimed to be a grandchild of Rosella Presley, thereby making himself Elvis' second cousin. He continues to promote himself as "Elvis' second cousin." The extreme lengths this impersonator has deployed, including having himself inserted into the original "Roots of Elvis" book. Not one person in Rosella's family had ever heard of a relative named Jerry Presley. Jerry's actions have been laughable at most, although the very sight of Jerry on the web, particularly Facebook, infuriated Ronnie to his core, and Barbara Lee called out the 1st printing of the book, which had been published, as a fraud. Elvis and Vernon met Jerry Presley only one time when Jerry showed up at Graceland. They went to the movies together, and Jerry sang for Elvis. At that time Jerry never mentioned being related, and neither Elvis nor Vernon were impressed. Vernon did tell Jerry: "We already have one Elvis."
One fraud Ronnie did not trust to be the truthful Presley heir she claimed to be is Eliza Presley, the woman who has, for years, claimed that Vernon Presley was her father, and Elvis, her brother. Do not believe it! Eliza Presley is not a Presley. The story of Eliza Presley was resolved years ago by the truth; that she came out of nowhere and befriended Elvis' cousin, Donna Pritchett (Presley). Donna is claimed to have lent her hairbrush to Eliza and the latter used it for the purpose of submitting DNA. The DNA proving Eliza's claim to Vernon Presley is false, as the DNA belonged to Donna. Ronnie and Barbara Lee stood their ground for years in defending Elvis, and Barbara Lee continues to be a "watcher in the wood," so to speak, her beloved partner no longer with us. Though the Elvis world has calmed down a bit as fanatics who long believed Elvis was alive, have now come to the realization that, today, Elvis would be 91 years old, and, no, Pastor Bob Joyce is not Elvis. Ronnie, God rest his soul, would have cleared up that myth once and for all.
Sadly, Ronnie Fleetwood passed away on February 24, 2021. He was a dear friend, a "brother", kin. He is missed by Barbara Lee and the many who knew him and appreciated his gruff, yet tender, style, and, boy, could he sing! Ronnie Fleetwood was a true cowboy at heart. He dressed the part, he lived the part. We miss you, "special angel." Say "hello" to E for us!
